Leena Nandan

Leena Nandan is an IAS officer of the 1987 batch, who belongs to the UP cadre. She is a graduate in English Honours from Patna Women's College, and has done her Masters in Development Management from the Asian Institute of Management, Manila. She has served in Uttar Pradesh in various capacities, as District Magistrate in 4 districts, Managing Director, UP Women Welfare Corporation, M.D. UP Tourism Development Corporation, as well as different postings in the UP Secretariat. While working in the Tourism Dept. in UP, she focussed on creating a corps of Tourist Police comprising ex-servicemen, for tourist facilitation and assistance, especially in cities like Agra and Varanasi.In the Government of India, Leena has worked as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, and as Project Director in Doordarshan. During her tenure in the Tourism Ministry, she devoted special attention to the Social Awareness campaign, 'Atithi Devo Bhavah'. The Rural Tourism scheme, which has demonstrated its ability to generate Inclusive Growth and empower women, was especially close to her heart.

Leena has keen interest in writing and her articles have been published in the Times of India, Hindustan Times, Indian Express, etc. She and her husband, Jiwesh, have co-authored a book 'How to placate an Angry Naga: Finding one's feet in the IAS' which was published by Penguin in 2007.
